Some of the best things about Vancouver are the many attractions activities and events where you don't have to shell out a lot of money and some are completely free!
For one all the parks in Vancouver are free although at some of the larger ones you may have to pay for parking.
The best place to start with is Vancouver's number one attraction, Stanley Park. Any time of year you can drive around the park or roller-blade, bike or walk along the seawall. Along the way you can stop and take pictures of the downtown core and the mountains. Throughout the spring and summer, even if you're not a gardener the gardens are beautiful to roam around in.
The Lynn Canyon Ecology Centre :%$amp; Suspension Bridge is another free worthwhile activity and it's also free to park there. The Centre is open year round. There's hiking trails, waterfalls and a suspension bridge that's 20 stories above Lynn Creek.
On Tuesday evenings from 5pm until 9pm you can go to the Vancouver Art Gallery and admission is by donation. There is no parking right at the gallery but there is lots of paid on street public parking nearby.
Of course it's always free to window shop and Granville Island is a good place to do that. You can meander through artist shops and studios and go to the public market where all the fruits and vegetables are enticingly and artfully displayed.
The biggest and best free event is the annual Celebration of Light fireworks display. Over a two week period 4 or 5 countries compete by showing off their most amazing fireworks over the waters of English Bay. The show is choreographed to music and simulcast on a local radio station. Thousands of people descend on beaches surrounding the harbor and crowd onto balconies to watch.
But, even if you don't purposely set out to go anywhere or do anything, some of the best things about Vancouver without spending a penny are awesome mountains vistas, breath-taking ocean views, fine beaches and fresh air.
